Construction of the Roosevelt Island Pickleball Court located at the rear of the Sportspark Building (250 Main St, New York)

ROOSEVELT ISLAND, NY – December 29, 2022 – President & CEO Shelton J. Haynes today announced the construction of a new Pickleball Court behind the Sportspark complex located at 250 Main St, New York. With an investment of over $100,000, the new Pickleball Court will breathe new life into and around the community as the many Island residents and tourists will enjoy the highly requested recreation space.

“Roosevelt Island has always been a premier destination attracting people from all over, and today we are making a critical investment to support our commitment to improving the quality of life for our Island community, said President & CEO Shelton J. Haynes. Recently there has been a high demand for a Pickleball Court from the community. You spoke, I listened, and I am proud to say – promise made, promise kept. A special thank you to our Capital Projects and Planning team for working diligently to bring this project to fruition.”

Assistant Vice President, Communications & Government Affairs Akeem H. Jamal added, “Today’s announcement shows this administration puts words into action. There is a strong focus on the needs and wants of the Island residents, and we are committed to making those dreams a reality for all who live, work, and play here. With the new court expected to be unveiled in early Spring, it will be available for the community to enjoy just in time for the warmer weather.”

Scope of work: 

  • 1.5 inches of existing asphalt removal over the entire area 
  • Repair major sub-surface cracks and install new asphalt over the entire area 
  • Paint the outline of Pickleball Court with White Striping 
  • Apply an asphalt seal coating to the entire area (warm weather dependent) 
  • Paint the Pickleball Courts 
  • Install Court Netting

The Roosevelt Island Pickleball Court is slated to open in early Spring 2023 for public use.
