[ARCHIVED] Southpoint Park: Working with WFF

RIOC Capital Projects Template

One of the biggest misconceptions about the revetment construction at Southpoint Park is that the work will permanently damage Roosevelt Island’s wildlife, including our feral cat population. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

In fact, RIOC has been working with the Wildlife Freedom Foundation (WFF) for the past year on the protection of the cat sanctuary in Southpoint Park. The sanctuary would feature the existing housing structure in a fenced-in designated area that has electricity and water for the feline tenants. The new location would be a permanent home for the WFF and would not be affected by any future construction projects, including the Southpoint Park Revetment/Open Space Project.

We hope we will be able to open the new sanctuary this spring.
