Roosevelt Island’s Annual Fall for Arts Festival to Feature FREE Art Workshops, Exhibitions, Amusements, and Live Music
WHAT: The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) hosts its Annual Fall for Arts Festival, a much-loved tradition featuring live mural painting, hands-on arts and crafts workshops for children and adults, amusements, and live entertainment. This year the mural theme is “EarthLove: Protect, Renew, Grow”, which will ask artists to create works that encourage the importance of respecting the environment. Attendees will be able to create art projects, fly kites and hear NYPL storytelling in FDR Four Freedoms State Park, take part in a kids’ sing-along, receive Henna and face painting designs, jump in the bounce house, win giveaways, and enjoy live music performances, just to name a few of the many free activities!
Indie rock group, The Aaron Short Band (youtube.com/aaronshortmusic) will kick off the live entertainment in FDR Four Freedoms State Park at 1 PM. Next up at 2 PM are Island favorites, the legendary Ray Abrams Big Band (youtube.com/RayAbramsBigBand). Returning again after a fantastic performance at Roosevelt Island Day will be Funk/Motown group, The Funktion (youtube.com/TheFunktion), closing out the show at 3 PM!
Participating groups include: FDR Four Freedoms State Park, The Music & Play Station, Sweetface Snoballs, Verizon, and local Roosevelt Island community groups such as the RI.I Youth Center, R.I. WHEN: Saturday, September 28th 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
WHERE: Southpoint Park, FDR Four Freedoms State Park, and the Lawn south of Rivercross. Visitors can take the iconic Tram, the NYC Ferry Astoria line, or the F-train to Roosevelt Island and then walk or take the free Red Bus to the events. Please find a map of the island here
