Winter Storm Updates: 

Tram snowAccording to NYC Emergency Management (NYCEM), an incoming winter storm is expected to bring 5-10" of snow to NYC, including Roosevelt Island, starting early morning Thursday, February 18th and ending in the afternoon on Friday, February 19th. RIOC is closely monitoring the situation and will follow up with advisories regarding updates on storm impacts to transportation, island closures, parking, and any additional storm affects.

Island Parking:

Update- February 18, 2021, 4 PM: Please be advised, the parking restrictions on Main Street and in the Motorgate Garage will be lifted at 9 AM tomorrow, Friday, February 19th.

February 17, 2021, 1 PM: Please be advised, due to the Winter Storm Watch issued for NYC, we will be suspending all parking on Main St. (between Tram Plaza road and 750 Main St., opposite McManus Field) starting at 6 PM, Wednesday, February 17, 2021.

Alternate parking will be available inside the North East parking lot at Coler Hospital (east promenade). In addition, meter fees will be suspended at all Cornell Tech campus parking. 

Parking under the Helix will be made available to vehicles who carry a disabled placard/plate, until space allows. Kindly note that only customers who pay for monthly parking will be permitted to park at Motorgate Garage.

An update will be provided when parking restrictions are lifted.

Transportation Updates:

February 17, 2021, 1 PM: The Tram and Red Buses are currently expected to run on a regular schedule, however, please anticipate delays in service due to impacts from the storm.

Facility Closures:

Update- February 18, 4:15 PM: Please be advised that all RIOC facilities will reopen tomorrow, Friday, February 19th. This includes:

  • All RIOC administrative offices 
  • The Cultural Center
  • Good Shepherd Community Center
  • The Roosevelt Island Youth Center

In addition, the Roosevelt Island COVID-19 Rapid Testing Site will also reopen on Friday, February 19th.

February 17, 2021, 1 PM: All RIOC facilities will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, February 18th. 

This includes:
