Dear RIOC Employees:
On Friday, June 19, 2020, the Board of Directors named me as the Acting President and CEO of RIOC. I have had the privilege of working at RIOC for over four years now as the corporation’s Chief Operations Officer, so I already know most of the people on staff. I have seen first-hand how each of you has risen to the challenge of serving the people of Roosevelt Island during the COVID-19 pandemic. I fully expect those efforts to continue during this period of transition.
I am a firm believer in accomplishing our goals as a team. Our culture will reflect that as we will be strategic in our approach, modify our business model with a greater emphasis on efficiency and work together on ways to improve our organization.
I also believe the key factor in building trust with the community and within our RIOC family is a renewed emphasis on transparency. Saying we’re going to do something is not good enough. Talking about doing something or changing something is not good enough, either. We have to actually do it and hold ourselves accountable to the realistic deadlines we have set and I look forward to making RIOC even better in the days and weeks ahead.
We have accomplished a great deal together over the past few years and I am confident that our best days are yet to come. If you have any questions, please contact your manager or Tajuna Sharpe, Director of Human Resources at Tajuna.Sharpe@rioc.ny.gov.
Sincerely,
Shelton J. Haynes
