For more than a decade, two original Roosevelt Island Tram cabins have sat beneath the Motorgate Helix, forgotten and falling apart.
As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Roosevelt Island Tram in 2026, we want to change that.
These cabins are part of Roosevelt Island history, and now we’re asking the community to help imagine what comes next.
What could they become?

RIOC is inviting residents, artists, students, designers, historians, and anyone who loves Roosevelt Island to share ideas for what these cabins could become and where they should go.
